Leonard Cohen’s Old Ideas Still Relevant
Posted by Roberto in IN THE LOOP on February 1, 2012
On an release-wise unusually boring January, the return of Leonard Cohen has unexpectedly become the most exciting thing the record industry got on offer, unless you really dig Lana Del Rey’s album. The veteran writer, who recently came to London for a record presentation where Jarvis Cocker led a funny interview, has crafted his stronger collection since ‘I’m Your Man’ and ‘Come Healing’, one of Old Ideas’ standout tracks, tops the current edition of the loop.
Among the entries of the week we can find the latest offerings by Ladyhawke, Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen ; The Men and Greg Dulli whom, fresh from announcing a comeback tour with The Afghan Whigs, is one of the chosen artists to cover a selection of (again) Leonard Cohen’s classics in the video series ‘Old Ideas By New Friends’ alongside Cults, Bradford Cox; New Pornographer A.C. Newman; etc.

The first loop of the year brings Rober Awards multiple nominees Real Estate back on top with their jaunty new single, ‘Easy’. Our brand new chart includes some releases by up and coming artists such as Julia Holter, Stay+, New Look or Grimes, as well as notable comebacks from the likes of Mark Lanegan Band; The Shins; The Magnetic Fields and Leonard Cohen, who came to London to present his new album ‘Old Ideas’, easily his best since the influential 80’s classic ‘I’m Your Man’.

The Loop Special: A Look At 2012
Posted by Roberto in IN THE LOOP, POP CULTURE & NEWS, POP CULTURE & NEWS on December 8, 2011
Before we kickstart our end of the year review, let’s have a last minute edition of our loop, anticipating the most interesting new releases announced for the first months of the New Year and featuring previews of long awaited debuts from artists who generated a strong buzz during 2011, headed by Lana Del Rey, whose first album to be released in January, feels a bit rushed out trying to cash on the enormous success of ‘Video Games’. Frank Ocean; Azealia Banks; A$ap Rocky and Friends are also being tipped for big things in many sound of 2012 forecasts.
Among the big returns, Leonard Cohen will launch his twelfth studio album, ‘Old Ideas’, Lambchop, Leila & Raekwon also got new material ready and Sharon Van Etten; Gonjasufi; Cities Aviv; Perfume Genius and Field Music are generously giving away new tracks previewing their respective new efforts. Mark Lanegan Band; Shearwater or School Of Seven Bells arrived too late to be included, but they will certainly be making waves too.
