American Alt Giants Share This Week’s #1

Two of the greatest alternative American bands Today, Vampire Weekend and The National share that rare gift in contemporary music that is longevity; as well as the same release date for their long awaited new works and very strong standout tracks. The merits of ‘Ya Hey’ and ‘Sea Of Love’ are so similar that we’ve decided to make them share Top of the loop honours on this occasion.
Recent Rober award winners The Weeknd and Julia Holter‘s new tracks make the highest entries, next to the latest from Liars; Daughn Gibson; the triumphant return of legendary producer Giorgio Moroder, on the wake of Daft Punk’s all conquering album; and the second volumen of celebrated dance compilation ‘After Dark’ well represented by Glass Candy.

New Year, new section; we begin 2010 with a new a weekly recap of everything that has grabbed our attention during the past seven days. And we do it with some sad news, while we were still shocked with Vic Chesnutt’s tragic death, we found out Lhasa de Mela is also no longer with us. The American born, Mexican raised and Canadian based singer-songwriter who swept the board at the Robers’ 1997 with her debut album “La Llorona” and had just released her eponymous third album. has lost a long battle against cancer. The Academy has spoken, after the results of our annual music poll were unveiled, now it’s the turn for the official Rober Awards. There are few surprises and many similarities with the people’s choices. As predicted 2008 got a name standing above the rest: Portishead. The complete list of winners after the jump.
