Flying Lotus Terminator Invades Our Loop

coronus-the-terminator

Flying Lotus‘ new album ‘You’re dead’ has been received as one of the records of the year and a career high for the man who makes fusion jazz hip again. One of its standout numbers, ‘Coronus, The Terminator’, brings him back to the top of our chart, weeks after his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar did the same.

Sun Kil Moon‘s ironic song about his feud with War On Drugs is the highest entry, with new offerings by TV On The Radio; Pix; Iceage; Mogwai and Lorde‘s song for the soundtrack of the new Hunger Games film, which she has curated, all debut strong.

#11-FLYING LOTUS-Cosmogramma (Warp)

Alice Coltrane’s nephew Steve Ellison followed up his breakthrough opus ‘Los Angeles’ with what was described by the artist as a space opera, containing a tour of the Universe. ‘Cosmogramma’ was named after one of his aunt’s lectures. The influences pretty much matched the scope and ambition behind the concept: with jazz, hip-hop, house, etc. thrown in a mix that fits within the most adventurous electronica. Thundercat and even Thom Yorke were among the guest musicians and all combined it shaped up an astonishing piece of musical evolution.
