Yeezus Works His Miracle In The Loop Again
Posted by Roberto in IN THE LOOP on July 8, 2013
Kanye West is quickly back on top of the loop with the official first single from his controversial ‘Yeezus’, the glam-inflused ‘Black Skinhead’ follows-up ‘New Slaves’ as its second standout track.
The new catchy tune by DJ Mustard Feat. TeeCee4800 is the highest debut in a week where newcomers such as Anna Meredith;Kevin Gates or the first release by new Spanish indie label Tenorio Cotobade, Irish band Ginnels, dominate the new entries contingent, alongside long awaited returns by Franz Ferdinand; Annie and The Bug.

Kanye West Assembles His Clique
Posted by Roberto in IN THE LOOP on September 22, 2012
Kanye West with a little help from Jay-Z & Big Sean fast-tracked all the way to the top with Clique, another highlight from his G.O.O.D Music label’s just released ‘Cruel Summer’ compilation, packed with high calibre stars of urban music such as John Legend; Raekwon; The-Dream; Ghostface Killah or R. Kelly.
Two of the most celebrated albums in recent times, Grizzly Bear and Jessie Ware spawed this edition’s highest entries. Next to them newcomers Chvrches; Sam Flax and the new EP by all-female band Dum Dum Girls also hit our chart. Dead Can Dance and The Soft Moon were the generous souls providing free downloads.

Jay-Z, KanYe West & Frank Ocean Conquer The Throne
Posted by Roberto in IN THE LOOP, POP CULTURE & NEWS, POP CULTURE & NEWS on September 2, 2011
The collaboration between rap titans Jay-Z & Kanye West has finally conquered the loop’s throne with a little help of ubiquitous R&B singer du jour Frank Ocean. ‘No Church In The Wild’ is the opening track of their joint album and one of the standouts too.
The return of the always mercurial Tom Waits predictably makes the week’s highest entry, followed closely by another high profile collaboration, this time between acclaimed alt. vocalists Bon Iver & James Blake and more awaited comebacks from the likes of Girls; Atlas Sound and Stephen Malkmus & The Jinks, plus free downloads courtesy of Megafaun; Plaid; Nikkiya; etc. ,

#1-ARIEL PINK’S HAUNTED GRAFFITI-Before Today (4AD)/KANYE WEST-My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Roc-A-Fella)
Posted by Roberto in MUSIC REVIEW, MUSIC REVIEW on January 9, 2011
It hasn’t happened since 1997, when Radiohead with their acclaimed ‘OK Computer’ and Spiritualized’s psychedelic masterpiece ‘Ladies & Gentleman we are floating in space’ shared the number one position. In 2010, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti exuberant lo-fi psychedelia and the definitive record in KanYe West’s career got the honors.
The former crowned a decade dedicated to sonic DIY and experimentation, joining the 4AD imprint; consolidating his band and discovering the possibilities of recording in a proper studio with amazing results. One of the pioneers of the much talked about glo-fi/chillwave so trendy during the year; the amount of ideas per minute collected in ‘Before Today’ had no equal in any other record released during the past 12 months. Still far from perfect, it worked as a sort of encyclopedia of radio oriented rock from the 70’s and the 80’s, filtered through his characteristic lo-fi, oozing urban decadence. It was neither the classic that will define this year –that honor may go to the hands of Arcade Fire- nor the most complete or flawless record, but undoubtedly the most surprising and the one we preferred through the year. This time Ariel Pink delivered a work that not only matched but amply beat his recognized capabilities.
The other side of the coin belongs to the biggest ego in today’s hip-hop and his masterpiece. KanYe West, hurt by the tepid reception obtained by that autotune feast that was ‘808 & Heartbreak’ hasn’t stopped until getting an almost perfect record –the first on his career to date. So many good songs he’d written that during the weeks preceding the album release he offered the remaining ones as free downloads through his G.O.O.D. Fridays –all of them still available and maybe destined to be part of a future deluxe edition. But it was the record what went beyond the highest expectations in an orgy of influences –samples of Mike Oldfield or King Crimson next to unexpected collaborations with the likes of Elton John or Bon Iver- and the who’s who in contemporary urban music, from Nicki Minaj to Raekwon, all invited to the event; a series self-confessions taking a fascinating look at the dark side in the life of today’s biggest rap star.

Music Poll Update: It’s Britney vs. The Veronicas, bitch!
Posted by Roberto in POP CULTURE & NEWS, POP CULTURE & NEWS on January 31, 2009
THE VERONICAS-4ever
After the announcement of this year’s nominations a few weeks ago, everything led to believe this would be the year of Portishead, with two newcomers, Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes gathering the awards left free by the Bristol trio. However, the recount so far does not confirm this initial trend.
After the jump, we give a quick look at those categories where competition is at its fiercest. Among them, the biggest surprise is the most recent one, “Guilty Pleasure”, where international fan clubs of Aussie sisters The Veronicas have movilized their members to vote; followers of Britney, also nominated, fought back , putting the star ahead on the race and leaving far behind initial favorites such as Alphabeat and Duffy. Interest for this category has been so high, that total voters nearly reach 700, doubling in number any of the others. There are still ten days to go before official awards and music poll’s results are announced. You can vote here. May the best one win!!
BRITNEY SPEARS-Circus

Rober Winners At Obama’s Inauguration

ARETHA FRANKLYN-My Country Tis Of Thee
Although the political attitude of many of the Rober Academy members’ ranks from mild apathy to full cynicism, we cannot help but sharing the joy and illusion of the USA while celebrating the most important historical moment the nation has lived for a few generations: The arrival of America’s first black president and his symbolic values of equality, freedom and hope for all; much needed in this troubled time.
To wish him all the best on his role as what it used to be called “the leader of the free world” pop stars of all backgrounds were playing in multiple shows and parties across Washington and the rest of the States yesterday. From the Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklyn, who sang the patriotic anthem “My Country Tis Of Thee” at the Inauguration to Arcade Fire. Everyone who’s anyone in the pop world, except maybe for, errm, Daddy Yankee…were somehow involved on the celebration. Here’s a few of the most notorious moments Read the rest of this entry »
