KanYe West is indisputably the big winner in the XXIX edition of the Rober Awards. The hip-hop superstar’s masterpiece ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ scooped honours in each of the fourth categories it was nominated for at the Official awards –sharing album of the year with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, whom also got a couple other gong.
West was also voted best in three of those categories at our music poll; only missing out for album of the year to Beach House, whose fans seem to have orchestrated a campaign that has seen the band collecting ten times more votes (over 3, 000) than anyone else in the album field. Unfortunately, those fans didn’t bother to cast their vote in anywhere else.
Other multiple winners are Canadian alt-greats Arcade Fire; fresh from their surprising victory at the Grammys; Janelle Monàe, continuing ‘The ArchAndroid’ winning stride; and the returns of Four Tet and Pavement, collecting two gongs each. In the poll, Robyn (voted song of the year); LCD Soundsystem and Javiera Mena –heralding the rebirth of Chilean Pop that media is currently hailing- also obtained double wins.
