Comenzamos nuestro repaso a la semana con la mala noticia de la muerte de Jimmy Lindsey, Jr. –más conocido como Jay Reatard. El joven músico falleció a la edad de 29 años con la policía aún investigando las causas. Otra triste perdida esta semana ha sido la del varias veces nominado al Rober y veterano cantante soul Teddy Pendergrass, dejando atrás una carrera plagada de éxitos, entre los cuales destacó el tema central de la película de culto en los 80, “Choose Me”, dirigida por Alan Rudolph.

We begin our weekly recap with the shocking news about the death of Jimmy Lindsey, Jr. -better known as Jay Reatard. The young musician died at the age of 29 with the police still investigating the causes. Another sad lost this week was several times Rober nominee and veteran soul singer Teddy Pendergrass, whose career including such highlights as the theme for Alan Rudolph’s eighties cult film “Choose Me”.

ACADEMY AWARDS MONTAGE: A LOOK AT THE YEAR AHEAD.

This year’s surprisingly good Academy awards ceremony ended up with a look at the future, thanks to a montage previewing some of the biggest movies to be launched over 2009. The clip included a mix of well hyped blockbusters and successful franchises next to some hints at potential nominees for the coveted awards in 2010. Among them: Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies”; Mira Nair’s “Amelia” and Lone Scherfig “An Education”.

With another look at that montage we begin a series of posts, looking at the most interesting movies (on paper) that the next twelve months will bring; divided by genres and starting by a deeper look at those movies that look likely to make an appearance in the next Awards season.
