Forced to change his former Final Fantasy moniker for copyright claims from the makers of the eponymous videogame, Owen Pallett, the until now better known by the cream of indie bands as their string arranger of choice, found his own voice as a recording artist and wrote an album that matched the quality of the illustrious acts he has collaborated with. A flawless, baroque pop record as emotionally rich as, at times, was majestic that has catapulted his profile to the upper echelons of the blogosphere.

The string arranger of choice among indie stars storms into our loop at number one. Owen Pallett, fresh from the release of his stunning new opus “Heartland”, is the Rober Awards favourite song at the moments. Other high entries include Lindstrøm & Christabelle; Beach House; etc.
Dubster meister Joker; Swedish electronica-meets-opera siblings The Knife and US rising stars Surfer Blood are also fying high.

We begin our weekly recap with the shocking news about the death of Jimmy Lindsey, Jr. -better known as Jay Reatard. The young musician died at the age of 29 with the police still investigating the causes. Another sad lost this week was several times Rober nominee and veteran soul singer Teddy Pendergrass, whose career including such highlights as the theme for Alan Rudolph’s eighties cult film “Choose Me”.
