After the mild disappointment that was their second opus “The Understanding”; Röyksopp, Norway’s biggest electronica export, are back to their most pop-tastic form in “Junior”.
The duo from Bergen has scheduled two albums to be released in 2009, when “Junior” is about to hit the shops and can be listened in full at the band’s myspace page; it will be followed by “Senior” at the end of the year. First impressions are more than positive . The album is packed with potential singles, most of them helped in the vocal field by the cream of Today’s cutting edge Scandinavian female artists. After the jump, a quick look at Röyksopp’s women.

Our favourite tracks of 2008 also suffered from the overall quality clash, even when the new digital format threaten with turning the traditional album into a thing from the past, favouring the track as the ultimate choice. Even so, the highlighted singles pale in comparison with other years’ offer, showing a noticeable growth in the presence of guilty pleasures that wouldn’t have classified in better times; hardest sounds were also on the rise.
Not everything was negative, though. The EP, as a way of compromising between the track and the album, seemed to be the chosen format among new acts that wanted to launch themselves with something more substantial than a mere catchy tune; the quality and number of them made us raise our hopes for a better 2010.
