ANIMAL COLLECTIVE-“Merriweather Post Pavillion” Artwork.
It’s only a couple of weeks into 2009, and music blogs and websites nearly unanimously have already proclaimed the new Animal Collective album “Merriweather Post Pavillion” as the one to beat for the album of the year trophy. On a first listening it does sound astonishing. First impressions:
-It’s a “logical” follow-up of “Strawberry Jam” with a strong influence of Panda Bear’s “Person Pitch” shimmering, beach boy-esque psychedelia.
-It’s their most accessible album to date, without losing any of their experimental edge.
-The album shows an underlying influence of house beats and rhythms. One of its hightlights “My Girls” seems to have built upon a similar beat to Frankie Knuckles’ “My Love”..Someone has already bothered on making a mash up between the two, remixer XXXChange posted it on his blog. (Listen here)
