St. Vincent Big Winner @ Rober Awards 2014

st vincent

St. Vincent has swept the board at this year’s Rober Awards Music Poll. The former Polyphonic Spree member has won in the four categories she was nominated for including album, female artist and songwriter of the year, thanks to her excellent eponymous fifth record. Another multidisciplinary female, FKA Twigs, has been chosen as breakthrough and cutting edge artist, whereas Belgium megastar Stromae takes the dance anthem and best R&B categories.

In what has been the most heavily contested field of the year, Stromae was also up for best live artist and his fans engaged in a bit of a commentary battle with fellow nominee Kate Bush’s supporters, both voting by the thousands. The legendary British singer who returned to the stage after three decades away, conquered the lucky audience who managed to get a ticket for her Hammersmith Apollo residency, which earned her the Best Live trophy in the end.

Sharon Van Etten’s “Your Love Is Killing Me’ has been voted best song of the year. Veteran experimental rockers Swans won best band and Jack White did the same in the male solo category. The forward looking Sound of 2015 is shared by Hinds; Shamir and SOPHIE.
