We begin our annual countdown of the year’s favourite songs with the symbolic 101 position, traditionally reserved for a guilty pleasure left at the gates of our chart. In 2013 this honour goes to Mariah Carey in totally unexpected good song shocker with the hashtagged #Beautiful’; although is the trendy R&B star Miguel who deserves a big part of the credit.

Janelle Monáe Leads Us To Prime Time

With the suites IV & V of her musical cybersaga having just seen the light of day Janelle Monáe is riding high again. ‘Electric Lady’ has proven to be another winner with legends such as Prince, Erykah Badu & Big Boi on board. ‘Prime Time’, the Princey-esque ballad she performs with Miguel is the week’s top track at the loop.

The mighty return of Arcade Fire with James Murphy on production duties is predictably the highest entry, followed by new songs by the likes of Helen; Machinedrum or Donna Summer remixed by Chromeo for a forthcoming mixes compilation. The biggest surprise among the debuts, though, goes comes from our favourite mormon trio Low who’s just released a superb cover of Rihanna’s recent smash ‘Stay’.

El Soul Conquista De Nuevo El Loop Con Miguel

Gracias al tremendo impacto que ha tenido Frank Ocean, las puertas se han abierto para una nueva generación de crooners soul y parece que el primero que va a beneficiarse de ello es Miguel, un vocalista americano cuya carrera hasta ahora no había obtenido el reconocimiento merecido. Todo ello a punto de cambiar tras ofrecer este año tres EPs llenos de nuevos temas totalmente gratis, allanando el terreno para su segundo album ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’. ‘Arch N Point’ es uno de los cortes mas destacados en dichos EPs y encabeza nuestro loop esta semana.

La habitual avalancha de lanzamientos em Septiembre deja su marca en esta edición con un número record de novedades; la mas alta de ellas pertenece a la poco conocida cantautora folk Angel Olsen. Otras notables entradas vienen de la mano del nuevo supergrupo de Thom Yorke, Atoms For Piece; Nick Cave con una de las canciones de la banda Sonora de ‘Lawless’ y Method Man también ayudando en otra banda sonora, la del debut como director de su colega de Wu-Clan RZA, ‘The Man With The Iron Fist’.

New Soul Conquers The Loop Again With Miguel

Thanks to Frank Ocean’ enormous impact, the doors are now opened for a new generation of male soul crooners and it looks like one of the first taking advantage it’s going to be Miguel, an US vocalist whose career to date has been rather underappreciated. All that about to change after offering three excellent EPs of new material for free, paving the way for his second album ‘Kaleidoscope Dreams’. One of those EPs’ standout tracks, “Arch N Point” tops the loop this week.

The habitual avalanche of September releases has made its mark on this edition, with a record number of new entries; the highest of them is little known folk singer Angel Olsen. Other notable entries include new Thom Yorke-led supergroup Atoms For Peace; Nick Cave with one of the songs from the ‘Lawless’ soundtrack and Method Man also helping in another soundtrack, the directorial debut of Wu-pal RZA, ‘The Man With The Iron Fist’.
