With tough financial prospects for 2008, we though we should play a stronger social role as community benefactors, helping our readers to save a few pounds by pointing them towards the finest free entertainment.

+NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS are back with a new album “Dig, Lazarus Dig” and them next to Spiritualized are the jewel of the crown in Itunes new series of free gigs in London. Other artists participating are Roisin Murphy and Tony Christie; José Gonzalez; Billy Bragg; Laura Marling; etc. Tickets will be allocated via competition at itunes live website. TO ENTER THE DRAW

+Other much-talked about free gig in London will take part in Rough Trade’s East shop in Brick Lane on February 29th. Resuming their excellent program of instore concerts, after the health and safety issues caused by Radiohead appearance, the most hyped-up band of the moment, New Yorker’s VAMPIRE WEEKEND will showcase the Talking Heads meets Paul Simon “Graceland” distinctive preppie style of their debut. An excellent album that could become one of 2008’s finest. Details on how to get tickets will be posted in ROUGH TRADE WEBSITE.

+THE FADER #51 ISSUE’s PODCAST mixed by Pocketknife with an excellent selection of up and coming artists from all genres, including Black Kids, Chikita Violenta, Santogold and the potential smash by Jovi Rockwell “Rizzla” (video above)DOWNLOAD IT.
