Are Mark Ronson and Rhymefest behind Michael Jackson’s comeback?

It’s only a mixtape. It digs in Michael Jackson’s rich musical past, adding samples from interviews, some obscure numbers, etc. It’s available as a free download from Rhymefest’s myspace page (click here).

But considering that behind it the names of one of today’s emerging hip-hop stars, Rhymefest, in theory promoting his forthcoming album “El Che”, and producer du jour, Mark Ronson, on top of the world after being responsible for both Amy Winehouse’s world conquering second album and his own, star-studded covers record; it looks suspiciously clear that they may be helping with the updating of Michael Jackson public image, before his much publicised comeback.

2008 looks set for a new Jackson invasion. He’s strongly rumoured to appear at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, probably surrounded by some of the artists who have remixed a few tracks from his biggest-selling album of all times, “Thriller”, (Akon; Will.I.Am; Fergie…aaargh..it doesn’t look promising) for the imminent release of its Deluxe “25th Birthday edition”.

Jackson is also following the route Prince began last year by appearing at the Superbowl, and announcing live residencies (a month at London’s O2 is under negotiation, where last years his purple archrival triumphed on a similar long stay). Even a reunion tour with The Jacksons is being talked about.

But the fact that Ronson and Rhymefest are helping to get his cool back is susceptible to many interpretations…It’s good at least than Michael is back to the headlines for entirely musical reasons.
