Another uneven follow-up, ‘Odd Blood’ found Brooklyn experimentalists Yeasayer building up on the diversity of ideas that made such a breakthrough record of their debut. Tribal chants hand by hand with electronica; Fleetwood Mac dating indie rock; 80’s radio friendly hooks merged with folk influences… all rather unique and personal. However, that kaleidoscopic vision sometimes gets out of control, which leads to their music feeling dangerously bloated and overloaded. When succeeding, though, they are still capable of writing the most amazing tunes (‘O.N.E’ and ‘Ambling Alp’ count as some of the best singles of the year).
