That’s why we are a bit shocked to find out that long time disappeared Trip-hop icon Tricky is back with a bunch of projects, including his debut as a movie director, “Brown Punk”. The film shares its title with Tricky and former Island records honcho Chris Blackwell’s joint new label, where they are comitted to promote new talent from a diverse range of styles and backgrounds.
Other nineties dance stars who also exploring their celluloid dreams are the influential electronic French duo Daft Punk. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Cristo always showed very cinematic qualities: their robotic image could have been taken out of a comic book. They had already soundtracked anime project “Interstella 5555”, but this is a full feature lenght movie in which our favourite robot couple try to search a way to become human, facing rejection from their cybernetic community. “Electroma” is about to be released in the UK and most reviews consider it a more than decent effort. At least, in this case, we don’t have to cope with anybody intensive acting lessons, showcasing their Meryl Streep complexes.
