El metal continuaba su vuelta arrolladora al primer plano, ayudado por el estancamiento que los géneros mas modernos parecen estar padeciendo. Los blogs expandían su cobertura e incluso Pitchfork exploraba sus diversos subgéneros. Por otros derroteros, unos cuantos artistas establecidos en los campos del hardcore, garage y noise rock nos entregaban notables regresos a su buena forma habitual (Mogwai, Wooden Shjips…), algunos incluso el mejor trabajo de sus carreras.
