The Loop Begins 2016 In Mourning For Bowie

Waking up to the horrible news of David Bowie‘s death due to cancer, this should have been a celebratory post highlighting the Thin White Duke’s heading the first loop of 2016 with ‘Lazarus’ the excellent second single from his magnificent swan song ‘Blackstar’. Instead serves as a mourning for his shocking loss to cancer.

One of the biggest heroes in rock history, through the decades his chameleon ways went through endless reinventions, so influential and present everywhere Today that popular music wouldn’t be the same without his iconic body of work. Bowie has left us on a high, with his best work for years, and will be forever remembered by the lucky generations which enjoy his groundbreaking creations and the future ones who will certainly be revisiting his incomparable artistic legacy. R.I.P. David Robert Jones.

Grimes & Janelle Monáe Lead The Last Loop Of 2015

Two of our favourite female artists, Grimes and Janelle Monáe, join forces in ‘Venus Fly’ and reach the top of the last loop of the year, before we begin our annual best of recap. The track is taken from the young Canadian star’s acclaimed second album ‘Art Angels.’

Post-hardcore Brooklyn quartet Big Ups is the highest entry on an edition that features both a glimpse into some of the next years’ most anticipating releases: Antony’s courting with electronica through his new monkiker, Anohni; Animal Collective; Erykah Badu feat. Andre 3000; Chupa Cabra; dvsn; Chairlift; Aesop Rock with Homeboy Sandman; Lucas DiPasquale with Popcaan; Suede and M. Ward among them.

Marlon Williams’ Miss Lonesome #1 In The Loop

An alternative songwriter from New Zealand, Marlon Williams, is this week’s #1 in our loop with his country-rock infused new single ‘Hello Miss Lonesome’, taken from his eponymous first solo album (in studio), which may help global audiences discover his talents.

A new edition packed with the last batch of new releases before the typical end of the year recaps arrive. Freddie Gibbs feat. The Loop Is Diving With Joanna Newsom

After her all-conquering live shows in London and teaching Larry King how to play the harp on TV, Joanna Newsom is back to the top of our loop with ‘Divers’, the title track from her masterful fourth album, delivered with a beautiful video directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. This is the pair’s their second collaboration after Newsom’s role on his latest feature’Inherent Vice’

Spanish singer Soleá Morente, daughter of the legendary Flamenco singer Enrique Morente, is this week’s highest entry with her indie take on the classic Sevillanas subgenre. Other high entries are the latest project by Jonny Greenwood “Junun”; The return of David Bowie with ‘Blackstar’ and his disturbing eight minute video; the spectacular duet between Grimes and Janelle Monáe and the latest tracks by So Pitted; D∆WN; Savages; POLIÇA; Baroness; Junior Boys: New Order feat. Beach House Thank Their Lucky Stars

Just when the critics were panning their recent work ‘Depression Cherry’ as the sound of a tired band, Beach House shuts everybody down with their magnificent surprise new album ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’, a far superior collection earning unanimous acclaim for the Baltimore trio once again. Back from our ‪London Film Festival‬ hiatus, our loop returns with Erykah Badu at the top. The soulful diva has completely reworked one of Drake’s latest smashes, ‘Hotline Bling’. Her “(But You Caint Use My Phone Mix)” widely improves on an already excellent, Flash & The Pan sampling original, which a few weeks ago came also close to top our chart.
