Our review of the best videos of the months is so packed that we have had to divide it in parts. We already saw former hits in the loop that were given audiovisual treatment. Now is the time of the Indie & Rock artists whose visuals have caught our attention as much as their music. To begin with ARIEL PINK’S HAUNTED GRAFITTI , ‘Bright Lit Blue Sky’, second single from their 4AD debut album ‘Before Today’. Another excellent track from what’s likely to be one of the albums of the year.
Damon Albarn animated project GORILLAZ are also on their second single from their third and best album ‘Plastic Beach’. The video for the Kinks-esque ‘On Melancholy Hill’ hasn’t got any real celebrity appearance as ‘Style’ did with Bruce Willis, but it has instead cartoon version of illustrious collaborators in the track such as Lou Reed.
DUM DUM GIRLS have a new single too from their Sub Pop debut. ‘Bhang Bhang’ is another slice of fuzzed-up female garage rock.
THE NATIONAL, who provided another of the best records we have enjoyed so far this year, put their performance on the BAM SHOW in full online. You can get the rest of it here.
And Colombian electro-tropical combo BOMBA ESTEREO offered us their new summer joint ‘Aguasalá’
CEO, The new project of Eric Berglund -one of the members of THE TOUGH ALLIANCE – keeps the 80’s techno pop and shimmering Balearic touch of the former, but visually offers a far darker proposition. ‘Come With Me’ is the first single.
COME WITH ME
And THE BLACK KEYS celebrates that their blend of retro rock with contemporary production has taken their latest album to the top 10 in the US charts with the follow-up to ‘Tighten Up’, called ‘Next Girl’.
Broken Bells – The Ghost Inside OFFICIAL VIDEO (Protein Exclusive) from Protein® on Vimeo.
The Shins vocalist James Mercer and Danger Mouse joined forces in BROKEN BELLS. The pair got a new video for their track ‘The Ghost Inside’ starring Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, the ginger bombshell in the role of the chief secretary of the Advertising agency.
Brit combo FOALS offer a new video for their track ‘Miami’; where shots of drag queens and body builders compile a collection of images as bizarre as visually striking.
Recovered soul legend GIL SCOTT-HERON gets a new single out of his comeback album ‘I’m new here’. The title track is a cover of a Bill Callahan song.
And another britpop classic returning, Neil Hannon’s DIVINE COMEDY launched a new album, ’Bang Goes The Knighthood’, with his personal tribute to the indie genre.
The Bitters – Travelin’ Girl from Mexican Summer on Vimeo.
Up and coming duo from Toronto THE BITTERS have also made a video for the highlight of their debut album ‘Trav’ling Light’.
MGMT are enduring the difficult second album syndrome. The psychedelic-tinged and arguably superior follow-up to their successful debut has produced another promo for the track ‘It’s working’.
And the kings of Psychedelic infused alt-rock THE FLAMING LIPS got also another challenging video from their album ‘Embryonic’. The chosen track is ‘The Sparrow Looks Up At The Machine’
“Smoke” – David Karsten Daniels & Fight The Big Bull from Justin Hamilton on Vimeo.
And to finish this block, San Francisco songwriter DAVID KARSTEN DANIELS has joined forces with the avant-jazz band from Virginia FIGHT THE BIG BULL for his third record ‘I Mean To Live Here Still’. The anticipating video belongs to the track ‘Smoke’.
