After a few weeks on hold, our loop is back with a bumper recap double edition looking at the best new releases of the past month. April and May have produced a very fertile music harvest with nearly 200 noteworthy albums hitting the shops. Panda Bear ‘s ‘Tomboy’ was one of the most awaited and didn’t disappoint; but faced strong competition from the likes of Gang Gang Dance; tUnE-yArDs; Beastie Boys; Bill Callahan and Fleet Foxes.
The hip-hop world has been buzzin thanks to the Odd Future collective: Tyler, The Creator has successfully stormed the mainstream with his new album ’Goblin’ but other members have also giving samples of their new work. Lil B and his beatmaster Clam Casino; DJ Quik; Curren$y and newcomer Gilbere Forte were among the many names keeping the genre as vital as ever.
Elsewhere, veteran (Fucked Up; Junior Boys; Boris; Woods.. and recent favourites (EMA; The Antlers; Cults; Zomby.. ) have also launched new efforts.
