Aphex Twin Triumphant Return Tops The Loop

This week’s #1 in our chart is ‘Minipops 67 [120.2] (Source Field Mix)’, the first single from the always enigmatic Aphex Twin all conquering comeback album ‘Syro’. Richard D. James first studio effort in thirteen years has been greeted as a triumphant return to form, pushing once more the boundaries of leftfield electronica in mindblowing ways.
Orlando duo Sales provides the highest new entry, followed by the new offerings by Marianne Faithfull; Joan Shelley; Flying Lotus, and the first taster from the eagerly awaited new album by Kendrick Lamar.

Maps To The Stars: Cronenberg Goes To Hollywood

Since Julianne Moore won the best actress prize at Cannes, Maps to the stars has been in our radar as one of the most anticipated films of the year. The latest David Cronemberg opus has finally hit our screens and it doesn’t disappoint.
The Canadian auteur became a household name through his unique take on the body horror genre (Scanners, The Brood), and later cemented his reputation with a series of more widely acclaimed, but no less poignant, dramas such as A History Of Violence or Eastern Promise. Always keen to dig in psychology’s triggers linking the realm of the physical with the pathological, this exploration of the insane excesses in Hollywood‘s celebrity machine seems like a fitting addition to his body of work.

Ms Lauryn Hill Sings About Black Rage

After years of struggling with personal demons, Ms Lauryn Hill is back at her most incendiary and brilliant with a sketch of one of her classic live tracks never before released. Timely dedicated to the events in Ferguson and using the tune of The Sound Of Music’s ‘My Favourite Things’ to showcase the racial hatred still rampant in the States, ‘Black Rage’ gets our loop’s #1 honors this week.
Ariel Pink is the highest new entry on this edition, among the latest offerings from Vince Staples; Grouper; Deerhoof, as well as two of Spain’s hottest new acts Sagrado Corazón De Jesús and Cosmen Adelaida.

Going Blockbuster With Run The Jewels

The first collaboration between Killer Mike and EL-P as Run The Jewels was so well-received than the pair of leftfield hip-hop stars got already a second installment ready for release. The first taster of which, ‘Blockbuster Night Part. 1″, is another killer tune reaching the top of our loop this week.
Flying Lotus Feat. Kendrick Lamar is the highest entry. Lamar establishes himself as one of rap’s most in-demand collaborators as he also features in the latest track by Jeezy. Other notable debuts are the latest offerings by returning all-time favourites Aphex Twin; TV On The Radio and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

La Roux Dances At The Sexotheque

Despite its very troubled gestation, which saw the former duo become just a solo act, La Roux‘s second album ‘Trouble In Paradise’ has been greeted by critics as one of the summer’s pop triumphs. Standout track ‘Sexotheque’ tops the new edition of our loop.
