#FilmNominations2014 : Best Animated Picture

yoko_out

2014 hasn’t perhaps been the greatest of years for animated films. Some of the most acclaimed titles of the awards season such as ‘Song Of The Sea’ and ‘The Tale Of Princess Kaguya’ haven’t been released yet, while big players such as Pixar didn’t have a big title on their hands, therefore the number of potential candidates felt a bit low.

Our nominees shortlist for this year’s best animated picture includes last year’s Oscar winner and Studio Ghibli’s master Hayao Miyazaki’s swansong ‘The Wind Rises’, the epic the story of the Japanese aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi; also set in Japan, the latest from Disney ‘Big Hero 6’, their first animated adaptation of a Marvel comic; Philip Lord and Chris Miller’ endlessly imaginative and box office record breaker ‘The Lego Movie’; Laika Studio’s ‘The Boxtrolls’ with its unique take of Alan Snow’s novel ‘Here Be Monsters!’ and Ari Folman’s ‘The Congress’, mixing reality with wildly psychedelic animation to depict a dystopian future where actors are persuaded to sell the rights of their animated image for the studios to work with instead.
