Pavement’s Secret History Heads Our First Retro-Loop

pavement

With the adoption of streaming as the industry’s new method for commercializing music and the significant changes on the way we consume it that entails, the playlist seems to be now the format of choice and new and old music are nearly on par when it comes to delivery. That’s why we begin this new section to highlight our recent musical discoveries or rediscoveries from the vaults. Either part of one of those playlists; synced on a film’s soundtrack; included on a compilation; reissued on vinyl or in any of the multiple “deluxe” editions available in the market; unearthed by the artist or simply bumped into by luck, here’s our list of music gems recently rescued from the past.

Nineties alternative kings Pavement top our first Retro-Loop with “Sue Me Jack”, one of the rarities included in “The Secret History, Vol. 1” compilation. Other recent revisited acts also featured are AFX; Lizzie Mercier Descloux; Jackson C. Frank; Mark Lanegan; The Replacements; Tim Maia and a dark Four Tet club classic sampling Cheryl Cole and Ellie Goulding.

Noah Baumbach, The New King of Comedy.

Greta Gerwig

After reaching that career peak that was ´Frances Ha´, New York auteur Noah Baumbach seems to have rediscovered his funny bones, following up his acclaimed picture with a double dose of comedy in which many want to see the beginning of a second and more accomplished professional phase, leaving behind his sometimes uneven dramas.

The first on arriving was ´While We’re Young´, a hilarious look at the lives of ageing hipsters after having been replaced by a new generation. Baumbach´s reflects about the social, familiar and professional roles society forces upon us in different periods of our life through the story of a documentary filmmaker who hit gold with his debut, but got stagnated at making a second one resorting to teaching as a way to make a living; Insecurity and apathy gaining ground on his and engaged in a loving but childless marriage, which somehow put some distance in their relationship with close friends, all of them having their first or second kids.
