Fiona Apple’s At Her Best

Fiona Apple’s, return, hailed as a career best, tops our loop this week with ‘Werewolf’, one of the many standout tracks in her impossibly long titled album. It carries on the current string of female singers replacing one another at our chart’s number one.

The new release contingent is also packed with yet more female artists. Cat Power; Purity Ring and Azealia Banks features well ahead of the pack. Rapper Joe Bada$$; indie popsters Eternal Summers and veteran grunge band Superchunk also debut.

A Hurricane Storming The Loop

Mysterious female singer MS MR, whose promotional strategy for breaking track ‘Hurricane’ is suspiciously similar to the one used last year’s to make Lana Del Rey a huge pop star, tops the loop on our “return from Holiday” edition.

A new chart almost completely formed by new entries anticipating some of the summer season’s most awaited albums, among them Dirty Projectors; Matthew Dear; Grizzly Bear or Four Tet and the first taste from David Byrne & St. Vincent’s joint project, as well as the first track from the Red Hot & Fela benefit compilation, a star-studded collaboration between tUnE-yArDs; Angelique Kidjo; etc.
